our mission and values

Breathing Space Coventry is a haven where the general public can experience renewal and reconciliation, rest and restoration, and where conversations unfold that draw our spirits towards God. Quiet mornings and day retreats, spiritual companionship and shared refreshments are the activities we offer for those living and working in deprived urban environments, in noisy city precincts and in harried, energy-sapping jobs.

Our mission is to provide a breathing space where the people of Coventry and the surrounding areas are readily able to enjoy hospitality of heart and hearth, experience beauty and silence, in all seasons.

Our values call us to serve and work together with people of peace regardless of gender, disability, ethnic origin, religion, belief, sexual orientation, education or any other characteristic. We cherish and practice peace-making and non-violence; justice-building; humility and gentleness; respect for creation; inclusivity and respect for all; community-building; compassion; purity of heart and integrity.

Our faith is centred on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ and inspired by the Bible.  For example we take seriously the Beatitudes (Matthew 5); the coming of God’s kingdom; the surprising encounter of Jesus with a woman at a well (John 4); what God requires of us as human beings (Micah 6); and the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 6). We welcome all comers, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, disability, orientation, education and employment levels, and marital or ordained status.
